Menopause is more than hormones
In midlife, sleep, mood, energy, weight and stress often change at the same time, and they are usually looked at one by one. Reading them together can tell you more than any one of them alone.
What changes around menopause
Menopause is the natural end of menstrual periods, and it most often happens between the ages of 45 and 55. Hormonal change is part of it, and it is a real change that many women feel.
Why it is not only hormones
Poor sleep affects mood and energy. Stress affects sleep. At the same time, work, family and caring responsibilities often change too. When so much shifts together, it is hard to say which change is causing which.
Why the same change feels different in different lives
Two women of the same age can have very different experiences. Health history, daily routines, family circumstances and what each is carrying all shape how a change is felt.
What a whole-picture look adds
It sits alongside your gynaecologist, not in place of them. I look at your whole timeline, your results and your daily life together. Questions about your cycle, and about hormone therapy, stay with the doctor who treats you. Starting or stopping hormone therapy is always a decision for the doctor who prescribes it.
My concern is not with the diagnosis itself, and I'm not trying to dismiss or challenge a legitimate medical diagnosis.
